Standards and Tests
This product meets the requirements of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) listed in Chapter “XV. Silicones” (as of October 1, 2014) and has been tested according to the requirements of Chapter XXI, thus also meeting the requirements of EU Regulation 1935/2004. Furthermore, the product has been tested according to the criteria of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA, 21 CFR 177.2600). A prerequisite for use within the scope of these regulations is appropriate treatment of the vulcanizate, for example, by heat, to remove volatile and extractable components before use.
Special Instructions
Before using the product, the user must ensure that the materials in the contact area are compatible with the product and with each other and will not be damaged or altered (e.g., discolored). For materials that will subsequently be processed in the product area, the user must clarify in advance that their ingredients or fumes cannot cause any impairment or change (e.g., discoloration) to the product. If necessary, the user must consult the respective manufacturer of the materials.
During curing, small amounts of acetic acid are gradually released. Ensure good ventilation during processing and curing. The curing time increases with increasing silicone layer thickness. Single-component silicones are not suitable for surface bonding unless the specific design requirements are met. If the silicone sealant is to be used in layer thicknesses exceeding 15 mm, please contact the application engineering department beforehand. Paints, varnishes, plastics, and other coating materials must be compatible with the adhesive/sealant.
Technical Data
- Skin formation time at 23°C/50% RH [min]: ~ 5 – 15
- Curing time in 24 hours at 23°C/50% RH [mm]: ~ 3
- Viscosity at 23°C [mPas]: ~ 300,000
- Density at +23°C [g/cm³]: ~ 1.1
- Shore A hardness according to ISO 868: ~ 30
- Elongation at break according to ISO 37, S3A [%]: ~ 600
- Tensile strength according to ISO 37, S3A [N/mm²]: ~ 5.0
- Temperature resistance from/to [°C]: -40 / +180°C (short-term [up to 7 days] up to +200°C)
- Tear resistance [N/mm]: ~ 13
These values are not intended for the creation of specifications.
Pretreatment
The bonding surfaces must be cleaned and any contaminants such as release agents, preservatives, grease, oil, dust, water, old adhesives/sealants, and other substances that could impair adhesion must be removed. The bonding surfaces must be clean, free of grease, dry, and load-bearing. The requirements for elastic seals and bonds depend on the respective external influences. Extreme temperature fluctuations, tensile and shear forces, repeated contact with water, etc., place high demands on an adhesive bond. In such cases, the use of a primer may be advisable to achieve the most resilient bond possible. Please consult our Application Technology Department for further information.
Instructions for Use
Due to the multitude of possible influences during processing and application, the processor must always conduct a trial application and test application. We recommend storing our products in their unopened original containers in a dry place (<60% RH) within a temperature range of +15°C to +25°C. If the products are stored and/or transported for extended periods (several weeks) at higher temperatures/humidity, a reduction in shelf life or a change in material properties cannot be ruled out.
Safety Information
Please refer to the safety data sheet. Once cured, the product is completely odorless.
